Healers and priests Jul 01 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

It's early morning and an old man already leans against the fence, resting after some work in his garden. He yawns a few times, turning russet gaze to the bright sun. However, his thoughts are interrupted by another even more older woman, who clenches her linen skirt and hurries to the direction of the fence.

"Marel! Marel!" waves the woman, who is in a hurry. Finally, when she approaches, she leans at her kneels and tries to get her breath back.

"What is wrong?!" gasps Marel "Der, why are you…"

But Der interrupts her friend "I was in the market this morning, you know. I needed some bread and other things, and do you know what I've seen?! I've seen Princess!!!"

Marel starts laughing "Yes, you've seen Princess, so what? She is always around us, you know. Not like others… She even visits me once per week just to ask how my family is doing."

"No no! Listen…" shakes her head Der and starts talking in a whisper "She walked with five healers to the temple. One of these healers was that bastard of your dead neighbour. Though, it's not the most important part! Princess Caillin was talking something about being prepared cause each minute they may be in need and she mentioned some priests too, who have to go together somewhere or something if something… I couldn't hear clearly, I was too far…"

Marel puts his hand on the chest, where heart is beating "Are you saying," man stammers "that something is wrong with our King?"

Der shakes her head again "No, it can't be. Princess looked quite calm and I even saw a smile on her face!"

"So…" drawls Marel "She was just having her usual meeting with commoners?"

"No, stupid man, it can't be just simple meeting. Too much healers around and these priests… Healers looked really worried or… I should say concentrated in their minds, but in a really worried way. I must admit that your neighbour's son looked even afraid. You know him, he is usually afraid of some job and problems. You can glance at his eyes and they always will tell, when something is happening around, what may disturb all his raffish days. I am afraid, that something huge is going on!" Der starts chewing on her lips nervously, while Marel just spits on the ground and turns back to his house mumbling "You are always afraid of something. You better find some kind of job and stop listening for private dialogues."

Blocked door Jul 03 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Commoners are nervously whispering about disappearing of their beloved Princess. She was not found in the Gardens, not seen in the Tavern or Market, what is unusual. "Maybe our Princess is sick?" one young child in his tattered clothes asked for another, who just shaked his head "Gods help for our Princess!"

Though, the real explanation of the missing Princess was heared on the late evening in the halls of the castle.

Two guards were (and still is) standing in front of the door, which leads to the room of the young Princess Caillin. Almost two days they did not let anybody in as nobody walked out. Moreover at the evening of the day some angry voices raised a noise in the hall.

"Let me in! I am her handmaiden! What if she is feeling not well?!" Gaela was talking with guards, who crossed their spears, blocking the way to the room.

"Lady doesn't want to see anybody. We are forbid to let anybody in!" firm voice of one of the guard explained.

"She did not eat almost two days! She missed her meeting with… It doesn't matter for you! But I must see my Princess, what is going one?!" more nervously in even more angry and firm voice talked Gaela.

Guards were standing silent and they did not make any moves as they would be sculptures.

"Do you hear me! Princess is in the need of her handmaiden! I - have - to - bring - her - some - food!" each word of Gaela was pronounced slowly and very clearly.

"Please, leave, nobody will enter and it doesn't matter who the person will be," once more explained the guard.

Gaela almost droped grapes from the plate, when she nervously flinched and started to shout "Your Highness! Your Higness! Please!" But just the guard answered: "Leave."

Angry grumbling was mixed with some firmly steps in the hall, when Gaela walked away. Even after this incident Princess laugh was not heared and still nobody saw her.

Worships Jul 04 2013 Through the Grapevine

Two wenches were speaking together in the tavern:

"Didja hear? /Our/ prince is gonna be marryin' that princess from cross the Sea. Seen 'em myself, holdin' hands and makin' eyes at each other."

Emerald glances over at Simone and curls her lip in a sneer. "Heard she brought a small price. A warship, cause we're going to war. Haven't you been listening?"

Simone glares back but there's laughter threatening to escape. "I don't know 'bout no warship, but it sure looks like he worships the princess. I say we accept her cause it looks like she's here to stay if the Prince has any say in it!"

Servants in Darfield castle say that Princess Caillin has locked herself in her room for two or three days. Her guards stand outside the door and refuse to allow anyone, including servants who bring food or her faithful handmaiden, Gaela, to enter her chambers. If the gossips are right, even the Lord Chancellor himself went to her room and demanded to speak with her. One of the guards threatened to arrest the handmaiden if she entered the chamber, and even pointed his spear at the Lord Chancellor when he arrived. Some say that the lord chancellor defied the guards and entered the princess's chambers carrying a basket. They say that visited with the princess for some time, and then threw open the door and ordered the guards to call for Gaela and a healer while he remained in the room, hovering anxiously over the princess.

Whispers among the servants of the castle are overheard in the local inn. Most of the words are hints of war! The warships gained from the betrothal are going to a good purpose others say. It looks like all over, forces are mobilizing, the training grounds are kept busy all hours and there is a war on the horizon. All eyes look towards Prince Tyrel, looking for his decision, for any word from him to either confirm or deny.

The princess burns! Jul 05 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Rumors fly aroud Darfield Castle after the chancellor called the royal healer to the chambers of Her Highenss Princess Caillin. After a full day, no one has seen the princess, and the healer has not returned from her chambers. In the late afternoon, the chancellor went alone into the chambers and then returned, looking worried and refusing to speak to anyone. He went to his own office, and then stopped at Prince Tyrel's office briefly before calling for his horse from the stables. As soon as the head groom arrived with the mare, the chancellor told the captain of the guard that he would return as soon as possible, and then the lord rode at full gallop toward the village of Darfield.

Prayers for Princess Jul 05 2013 Through the Grapevine
_

A royal courier arrived at the temple in Darfield with a message for someone there. Although the priests and priestesses have refused to comment on the matter, citing their sacred vow of confidentiality, at least one servant at the temple claims that the holy ones are keeping a prayerful vigil for Princess Caillin. Is she as ill as some say? Is she dying? Those who know are not talking.

The Queens Touch Jul 06 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Rumors have been flying through the castle that a certain Princess has finally been awoken from her fevered sickness by some miracle. Was it medication? Some new herb or root that had been discovered? Being bled out to allow the sickness to escape from her body?
No, indeed it's much simpler than that and rumor abounds that all it took was the Queen to return from Lakeshire where her husband King Callum Kilgour currently stays to enter into the girls room. A few lullabies and kisses and cuddles and it would seem as though that was all the Princess needed to gain the strength to fight the sickness that had been hanging over her and claiming her. And indeed, the Queen was in there for perhaps a candlemark before the Prince and his betrothed came in to witness the wondrous miracle of a mothers love!
Doubts of course are mixed with the rumors, but it's been confirmed that even the Kings own Healer admitted the Queens touch seemed to be all it took!

Eagles and Tempers Jul 12 2013 Through the Grapevine

On the day when the troops gathered for mustering another Drama unfolded. But this was one that lacked tearful goodbyes.

The Baron of Riverwynd was riding through the city when he happen to catch sight of a tall women walking with a cane the woman was dressed in a hunter green wool gown and her brown hair was pinned up. The woman had seen him and tried to slowly make her way to the temple. Upon spying her, the Baron dressed in his armor still managed to launch himself from the saddle and he grabbed the woman by her hair before she could fade into the gathering crowd. He was enraged "You devil hell spawn, whoring magic witch." He screamed at her. He kicked her legs from underneath her. There was an audible crack and crunch, the woman screamed in agony as she fell to the ground. She attempted to curl up into a fetal position to protect herself from his blows. "You want an annulment? Bitch of seven hells." He cursed at her again.

"Umbra mercy, sanctuary!" The woman screamed as the Baron let go of her hair. He started to hit her with his fist.

It was his own personal guards who pulled him away from the woman. Another one of his guards and his squire young Lord Timothy Ruxton dragged the woman to the steps of the temple. The temple guards hearing the commotion in the street came to meet them and with them was a priest. The priest took the woman into the temple and out of sight of the public.

Rumor has it the Baron of Riverwynd has sentence his guards and his squire to death for stealing his property. The condemned are with the army but they are being held in a wagon used for prisoners of war, until the time the Baron sees fit to deal with them.

"Did you hear?" Gilmad is speaking to his brother Bufiss in the tavern of Darfield. "The Laniveer army split in half. They says fifty thousand men is headed this way."
"This way?" Bufiss asks with concern in his voice.
"Aye, this way." Gilmad responds. "Aye, and Prince Tyrel is headed that way… but they say he has less men."
"Should we get ready for enemies in our yard?" Bufiss asks, the anxiety starting to get to him.
"I think so."

Rumors begin to spread like wildfire. Half of the Laniveer army has set siege to the city of Weston, while the other half are moving to take Darfield.

As the sun began to rise in Darfield, dozens upon dozens of warships, bearing the colors of Aberdeen, begin rounding the horn. The ships are sailing into the sea of Darfield, no doubt headed to support the forces of Mobrin. For days upon days, people have grumbled about the pathetic alliance between Mobrin and Aberdeen. It seems popular opinion was wrong. Watching the warships has become quite the spectacle around Darfield Village.

Little Laniveer, big courage Jul 14 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Although official word of the Battle of Blackbarrow is slow to travel, but rumors spread like wildfires. One of the most popular tales is that of a small soldier, perhaps even a child or some bewitched creature, who stood with the Lanniveer. Wearing ill-fitting armor, the wee warrior fought valiantly. Some say that he killed at least 50 men of Mobrin who were twice his size or more. Some say that he attacked some of the bravest of Mobrin, even the crown prince, whose foot he severed from the royal leg. When the armies cleared the field of wounded and noble dead, and commoners swarmed over the place to scavenge for any scrap worth selling, some found the body of the daring dwarf, still clad in his battered and and blood-stained armor, still clutching the hilt of a sward that surely was too big for him to weild.

Trouble in the Village Jul 17 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

There had to be at least a two dozen people in the tavern, when Baron Fallon Riverwynd and his men came in. The men were wearing the colors of Blackforge, all six of them including the Baron. First, they pushed a servant girl around until she fled, crying! Then, they scared off an old man, Cyrus, who is usually in the tavern every day, all day, drinking. Next, they busted several bottles of wine on the floor, wine they said was 'worse than piss.' Finally, they beat up the servant girls father when he arrived to defend the honour of his only daughter. He was nothing more than a poor farmer. They say he was taken out back and beat until he was nearly dead! If it hadn't been for that huge Shazan man scaring them off, they might have killed the poor farmer!

New priestess? Jul 17 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

One priestess is working at the garden very close near the temple. She is dressed in a white robe, but a sign of "The Light" is proudly hanged on her back: black triangle with the burning sun inside. Priestess weeds out a small part, where just tulips grow.

Another priestess comes closer. She is obviosly the one, who never worked in the Garden. She curiously cants her head and whispers "Sister Alenic, why are you taking away these little white flowers?"

Sister Alenic giggles under her nose "Sister Becca, It's not flowers. It's weed, if I won't take it out, it will kill flowers…"

Sister Becca chuckles at her rustiness "Oh, what we would do without you? Likely, we would starve and around our temple forest would grow up… But anyway…" and she chews on her lip, leaning closer near another sister.

Alenic raises her head curiously "Yes, sister Becca? What is it?"

"Have you spoke with the Princess Caillin?" silent question leaves priestess' throat.

Alenic shakes her head and lets Becca to continue "She came to me and asked… If she could join the temple!"

Alenic gasps "Are you joking? She is so young and beautiful woman! Doesn't she want to have children?"

Becca shakes her head "She says, that these villigers are her children… I don't know. She had to speak with her father yesterday. I can't wait to hear news… Maybe she would become one of the Chosen later…We need someone from the nobles… They are powerful…" drawls Becca and turns to leave "It's time for prayer."

Alenic just shakes her head and once more immerses her fingers to the ground.

"No, I guess he was a little bit worried and that's it!" answers the guard of the Hall.

The maid shakes her head: "Nooo… I do believe he was angry. He was whispering something to his own guard about taking all the stuff and leaving!"

"Leaving? Are you sure?" asks the guard.

"I am sure. You will see. Tomorrow there will be no the Grand Duke in our lands!" and that maid runs away to continue her work, while the guard just cants his head thoughtfully.

Bustle in the yard Jul 23 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Snorting was heared in the night. More than a few fine studs and mares were snorting. Horses were anxiously pounding at the ground. Servants, dressed in the dark blue or dark green, or sometimes in both colours were running to the castle and back near the waggons. They all were carring many small and massive chests. Most of the chest were decorated with the shapes of snakes. Many of the chest had some gold or silver dusts, just to shine beautifully.

Some sleepless commoners were standing in the yard and staring, whispering. One young child tuged a sleeve of his father and pointed at the servant, who was carring obviosly a painting, covered with silk veil. "Father, father! Did you see?!" kid's childishly loud voice rippled through the air, when a small gust of wind raised the veil "Did you see the girl on that painting? Who is she?! I had never seen such incredibly beautiful girl… Is she real?"

Father giggled silently. He leaned closer near his boy "My dear, I've seen. Yes, she is incredibly beautiful creature. I heared rumors, she is the princess of the island. Sister of the Grand Duke," explained father and his curious glance sliped to the man, who entered from the castle. It was the Grand Duke himself, dressed in his usual ridding clothes. He paced straight to his stud, jumped on it and encouraged to trot. Not too fast. Elegantly. Very elegantly. And he was followed by all his servants and guards.

There was that young maid, somewhere in the shadows of the night. She grined proudly, mumbling "I said there will be no grand duke tomorrow in our lands…"

Friends or Foes? Jul 27 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

He had flung his helmet to the ground in furious anger after losing his tilt against Sir SYMON Farrow, for all spectators to see, and afterwards Sir RUTHGAR Ruxton was seen riding off the lists on his proud black destrier, fuming. The tourney armor /and/ the horse where delivered a little later to the winner. And so the servants of Darfield Castle where whispering among each other, to have an eye on the Rioga to not miss the moment when the displeased Ruxton knight would come and ransom his steed and gear back, anticipating at least some shouting, if not bloodshed.

How wrong they were. At first it seemed that Ruthgar would not come at all, sending a letter instead. But then he came himself, unarmored but… yes, he had his sword with him and two servants. One of them is romantically involved with one of the kitchen maids, and said that his master was calm as usual, but anyone who knows the Ruxton knight is aware, that he might be cold outwardly, while some sort of discontentment always seems to boil inside of him. What happened next was strange - the two knights actually engaged in a longer conversation and shared a cup of wine. Laughter was heard - a rare smile even seen on the Ruxton's features. When the talk was over both seemed to be in good spirits, with Symon accepting the offered pouch with the ransom and even calling for his squire, to show the Ruxton servants where the armor was kept.

So it seems all bad blood between Sir Ruthgar and Sir Symon seems to have dissipated, and made way for a… possible friendship perhaps?

"Did you hear?" A drunk merchant is speaking to a sailor in a tavern in the city. "The Kilgour Princess, Caillin… Ballew and I saw her riding off into the woods - WITH SIR EDMOND!"
"No!" The sailor responds in disbelief, "She wanted to join the temple!"
"Its true." The merchant confirms, "She rode off all by herself, with only the guard. Her handmaid, Gaela, she was nowhere to be found! You know what I think?"
"I have an idea, but why don't you tell me?" The sailor asks.
"I think Princess Caillin is having… relations with the guard!" The merchant says, his words overheard by the entire tavern. "Why else would she ride off into the woods with him, and not her handmaid?? It looked like they were trying to be… sneaky."
"That is the only thing that makes sense." The sailor responds in a slur.

Runaway Snowflake Jul 28 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Yesterday's storm caused quite a commotion when it suddenly burst over the area. Beside the rain that flooded the streets, turning them int great trenches of mud, a rumor has through the royal capitol and nearby castle faster than a barn full of hay can burn. They say that the princess Caillin, as usual, was riding when the storm came. The loud thunder frightened her beloved Snowflake. The horse bolted and ran into the countryside, leaving her guards to chase the horse and its hapless rider. Each boom of thunder or crack of lightning frightened the horse more, and he galloped faster. The guards could not catch her, and feared that they would be in great trouble with the king. So they returned to the castle, where they reported to the chancellor about what had happened.

The chancellor quickly changed into his riding clothes, and with Duke Cedric Crawford and the guards, he rode as swiftly as possible to find his dear cousin. Because Snowflake was so frightened, he ran wildly, not in one straight direction but zigzagging across fields, changing direction whenever thunder or lightning came. When the men spotted the horse, the princess was struggling to control him but failing. They and some noble knight who was riding nearby converged on the horse. People also say that a man or some strange creature dropped from the trees over the horse and helped the princess to stop Snowflake. They took shelter somewhere until the storm left. Late in the day, people saw the duke, the noble knight, and the two guards on their horses. They also saw the Lord Chancellor riding on Snowflake with the princess, but she looked very pale and weak, and the chancellor held the reins of the horse. When a few people in town asked about the princess, the chancellor only said, with a sigh of relief, "She is safe. She needs rest."

They returned to the castle, but the princess is not well. Many people from the temple are praying for the princess, both in the temple and in their own homes. They pray to thank the gods for her safe return, but they also pray because she has been sick many times recently.

Gifts It seems as though some Hara Jul 29 2013 Through the Grapevine

It seems as though some Haravean houshold guard were seen entering the woods early this morning. Dressed in green and white they had two casks of wine, and two ornate ash wood long bows. The entered into the forest early, and when they returned some hours later they were empty handed. Some towns folk overheard some words from the men as they made there way back to the castle.

"By Sess!, Thought we would never find that place!" said one guard to the other.

"I know! What an odd way to live. And that man, our lord was not lying, he is huge! Do you think they will know the meaning of this? "

"I doubt it could be mistaken for a gift from sheat!" Laughing loudly the men just continued on their way, japing and laughing as if speaking of the weather.

Playing Doctor? Aug 02 2013 Through the Grapevine
_

Rumor has it that Prince Logen enjoys the solitude of the library at night, but not entirely for peaceful readings. The Lady Caitlyn Crawford was found to be sitting rather closely with the Prince in the library late one night. They were spied sitting close, faces a bit closer, speaking in hushed tones despite the emptiness of the room.

After the arrival of several others, including the lady's brother and the prince's sister. The Prince Logen bolted from the group and down one of aisles. Not long later there was a sudden crashing sound followed by an exclaimation of surprise and possibly pain.

The Deputy Marshall went to find the prince, and returned a short time later with the young noble son draped over his arm passed out. The sister Crawford went to check the poor prince before Lord Cedric presumably took him back to his suite in the castle.

The next juicy tidbit of the son sent away only to return, is that the Lady Crawford decided to check on the prince to make sure he was truly alright. However, when she arrived at his door she instructed her handmaid to wait outside for her. Her handmaid was eventually escorted back to the Crawford's suite when she was found to have waited so long she'd fallen asleep. Logen was found alone in the morning when servants came to open the room and attempt to pick out his attire for the day. His personal guard Almaron shooed the servants out of the room, and can be overheard speaking with the prince something about Queen, meetings, marriage, and healer.

Fallow friendship fields Aug 02 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

The chatter amongst the Kitchen folk is that Prince Logen comes down each morning to fix his own meals, and even assists the kitchen staff with their work. Also in the same buzz, is that Princess Ciarrah usually happens by the kitchen every morning even before the Prince returned. This particular morning was different, however as the Prince and Princess exchanged rather informal greetings and then when the princess left, claiming feeling ill, suddenly the prince followed after like a pup on leash taking platters of food with him.

There is also the rumor that the breakfast meeting wasn't the first private conversation the two have had. Late one night recently, and prior to their breakfast, Prince Logen all hooded and shadowed snuck into the stables where he ran into the Princess Ciarrah. He made first contact, according to the rumor, and they spoke at length about the prince's older brother, his marriage to the Princess Ciarrah, and proceeded to compliment the noblewoman a few times. When directly asked, Princess Ciarrah's handmaiden Serah speaks of them agreeing to a mutual friendship between the two. Prince Logen offering to help her adjust to his brother, and possibly speak to the Prince Tyrel on her behalf.

After this comes news that the Queen was rather tragically soaked when walking to apprehend the Prince Logen and Princess Ciarrah as they shared yet another meeting this time in the shallow waters just off the beach. Both fully clothed, accompanied by Handmaid and guards. Lord Ruthgar's appearance did nothing to quell their conversations that may have included a confession of desire from afar on the Prince's part. However, the prince was heard saying that he has enjoyed the company of one Caitlyn Crawford… and could quite possibly have sudden and deep feeling for this one. Of course, this was all before placing an intimate hand to the princess' arm and looking deeply into her eyes… the tale would go on but the teller seems to have become lost in the assumed romance of the situation, and much of the information unbelievable.

Right before supper, the midwife was called to the Weston suite. When other people, including the Duke of Sutherland, the Crown Princess, the Chancellor, the Count of Greenshire and the Heir to House Kincaid, got to the sitting room, there was a very nervous Lord Robben pacing around. It's said that he almost went inside their bedroom when he heard his wife's scream. Not long afterwards, it was announced that the pair's son was born, but the Lord only got to see his son for a few brief moments, since apparently things were not done, and Lady Aemy was still in labor, giving birth to a daughter as well not too long afterwards.

While there's not been announced any names for the newest Ruxtons, the reports say that both mother and children were doing well.

Meet the Winners Aug 10 2013 Through the Grapevine
_

The winners got to tell all about their inventions/discoveries, and everyone got to try chocola! And apparently there's a store in Stormvale that will be selling it!

After dinner (and after the clean up from the little bit of a mishap with dishes flying off the head table due to unknown circumstances), there was dancing. And while everything was prim and proper, with all the correct attendants, it seems clear that Lady Solara was enjoying the opportunity to dance with Chancellor Caedmon.

With ships boasting Aberdeen flags at port, it is rumored that King Isaac Aberdeen will be visiting with King Callem Kilgour fairly soon. Is he here to check on the well being of his daughter, who the servants say has been sick lately or is he coming to check on his son, Crown Prince Conall Aberdeen? Maybe it's neither one.. maybe with the talks of Moniwid backing Laniveer, he is here to show his support and backing. Whatever he is coming for, it's hopefully something good!

Royal Rumble Aug 12 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Whispered words are going around that the Queen and King were in a late night fight in the empty throne room (well as empty as can be with their own personal guards and servants in the vicinity) that turned quite violent. Servants, after the fight, report that there was food and wine everywhere, as if the items had been tossed in anger, the mess having took some time to clean up.
While interesting, another more sordid rumor is that a very naked Queen had to be escorted out from the throne room after said fight, wrapped in the robes of her hugging Husband and surrounded by stone faced guards who may or may not have been blushing while gasping and blushing handmaidens followed to try and keep the Queen from being spotted. The moods of both the King and Queen were reported to be very high on their quick dash to the Royal Rooms.

Moniwid Hostage? Aug 14 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

It has already been a few days, and the Mist of the Island has kept mostly to her quarters. But now finally she starts to venture outside again, at least keeping to of the Castle grounds. Yet… the guards accompanying her and watching over her are no more of Moniwid allegiance, no, they wear the colours of House Kilgour. Some servants can tell a tale of the original four guards, who where escorted out of town, which leaves the fiery haired Bastard Princess… a hostage? Other rumours tell about a meeting at the Throne Room some days ago where Emerit had been summoned to, for words with the King himself. She was seen leaving an hour later, with slightly dimmed humour and even a trace of a tear on one of her cheeks.

Her half brother the Grand Duke Mantilo still has not returned, and now the fiery little maiden is left alone, at a court that suspects her House of treachery. Her mission of establishing trade and other relations - on hold for now.

Prince and his prize… Aug 17 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Late in the evening three noblewomen are sitting around in a parlor stitching away and chatting. Their handmaids are sitting with them, as is customary and proper. One of the ladies finally asks, "Did you hear what that Prince Logen said after his astonishing victory in the tournament?"

"Yes, I was sitting in the front rows… he claimed victory in that harlot's name, Caitlyn Crawford I believe it was." Another replies.

"Well, rumor is she went to visit him in his tent afterwards and her handmaid was bared from entering." The first woman says demurely, "It would seem that woman's wiles were part of the prince's prize."

"Oh hush now, there was a large gathering of drinking, dancing, and music just outside the prince's tent. I doubt they could have gotten away with anything. Besides that Crawford woman is a healer, she was probably there to make sure he hadn't any unseen injuries."

The last one pipes up, "I'm not too sure, no one saw them for hours according to a friend of mine." a pause to grin impishly, "Untill into the courtyard they stride arm in arm, when suddenly." drama effect pause, "The prince dropped to one knee before her and after some teary eyed talk, I heard the Crawford shout Yes. And throw her arms around the prince."

"I'd like to know her secret, to win herself a prince like that… doesn't seem fair in my book." the middle one huffs.

"That's because your father can't find any suitors for you… perhaps you should take a page from Lady Caitlyn's book, and spend the night in a library." the first one smirks.

This morning, members of the Rioga and the Castle Watch entered the quarters of both Logen Kilgour and Caitlyn Crawford, and arrested the guards of both Logen and Caitlyn, as well as Caitlyn's handmaid, Lavona. The guards and the handmaid were then escorted to the Royal Dungeon under Castle Darfield, where they were locked away in a cell. It is uncertain what their crimes are, but it must have been a major crime against the crown in order to warrant such actions. Several people have gone to visit the arrested, but have been denied access.

1:Yeah, but I heard someone got it all for her. It's like a REALLY lot.
2: What? Do you think-
1:Of course. I heard it was from one of the castle guests.
2:Probably that prince. They been hanging out a lot, you know. And I heard him go about a present. But this… *headshake*
1:A gift for what?
2:Not sure.
1:Well. To be giving her that much and without a betrothal. Damn nobles having more fun than us these days it seems.

Princes and Princesses, Witches an Aug 24 2013 Through the Grapevine

A quiet rumor makes its way among the maids at Darfield Castle, no doubt being passed from servant to master discretely.

"I was there in Princess Caillin's rooms when it happened. We were all preparing everything for the wedding, and the Princess' sister - the one freshly home from Lakeshire - was there too, brushing Princess Caillin's hair. And then-"

"And then what, you silly girl?"

"Well, when Prince Logen came in - I can't remember how it started. But soon enough, the Princess Roslin was saying that she thought the Prince's lover, that Crawford, was a whore and not fit for company!"

"A whore? She actually said that, a whore?"

"Well, someone said it. It might have been her or someone else. But it got said, I know that much."

"Dunno that the word's wrong, given everything folks has been saying. But did you notice no one's really seen much of that woman of late? Well anyway, you ninny, what happened next?"

"Oh, Prince Logen was ever so cruel to the Princess. Said no man would ever marry her, and that she was a fool. Of course, she said something I didn't quite understand, about how the Prince had made the army weaker with his marriage. But by then Princess Caillin was screaming at the top of her lungs and I couldn't understand a thing."

"So what happened in the end?"

"Hard to say - eventually the Prince stormed out, and Princess Roslin well it was strange. I've never seen a woman angry like that. A woman gets angry, she cries, you know? She wails. With the Princess she just stood there with her hands shaking. Made me think of my father when I had done something wrong as a wee lass. But the real shock came from hearing Princess Caillin to her sister, calling her brother's lover a witch what had put a spell on him, making him so mean. I'd never heard her say something like that before!"

"A witch? That's nonsense - women don't need magic to catch themselves a man.
"But what if it's true, and she's used a spell to make him fall in love with her? Wouldn't she have been whipped bloody with her maid? After all, it's not just a man she caught, but a prince. And made quick work of him too, near as I can tell."

"Hush, you. No more of that. Back to your work."

Strange Night cats and fights Sep 04 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Talk in the market area of things that happened on a recent evening, commoners and other merchants talking about one of the Watch fighting a cat can be heard.
Two men could be heard talking. "Hey, did you hear the Captain of the watch and that officer who never wears armor got attacked last night. I heard it was a cat the size of a house that attacked them. That officer managed to kill it though." The first man tells his companion, "That's insane, cats don't get that large. I heard it was the size of a horse, not a house, you sure you haven't been drinking again?" the second man replied.

"You're both wrong, the unarmed watchman rode into marketplace with a saddle attached to the cat and it went berserk and threw him off and attacked him." a passing older woman comments when she hears the two men.
"You're all wrong, I was there and saw it as it happened. A large cat attacked the Captain and the officer, but the officer was wrestling the cat right there in the middle of the road! Is he insane? wrestling a beast like that? Why didn't he use a sword? A second woman says as she stops to join in, then she continues to speak after the three others stare at her in disbelief. "You know what else is insane? I heard him thank the cat for the fight, he even scratched along its ear and cheeks before he broke its neck. Who does something like that? Who apologizes to something before they kill it?
The three others dicussing events just blink at the woman and shake their head, the first man speaking again, "What is he? That's one strange watchman, talking to animals? I think the watch needs to keep an eye on their own watchman, something is seriously wrong with that boy." The other three nod in agreement and then quickly disperse when they see a watchman on patrol.

"You mean yesterday? On the first of the Holy Days of Alasair?" The boy gives a chuckle. "What's so special about that, I wonder?", as he shoots the girl a suggestive glance.

"Well, deranged… and /not/ looking very happy. The baron frowned, his tunic was torn at the front, and his hair was dripping. Maybe she pushed him into the lake?"

"Nah. She's the princess, remember? She wouldn't do that!", the boy objects, while the girl continues.

"The princess had a sad look about her, kept staring at her husband all the time."

"Okay, now that does sound strange.", the boy admits, shrugging lightly.

"The baron then rushed to speak with the Chancellor, I hear. I wonder what tale he had to tell…", says the girl before she smiles at the stable boy.

"Maybe I can see you later, when I am done with my work? It's still the Days you know…?" Blushing slightly as she admits that.

War and Weston Sep 25 2013 Through the Grapevine

It is day 33 of the month of Alasair, Weston and the Pass

It was early in the morning and the air was damp and cold. A thin layer of frost and ice covered the trees on the pass. A heavy almost frozen fog seem to fill the valley below. In the distance the sound of war drums and a horn from Laniveer invader could be heard. The heavy cavalry and heavy infantry of the Weston responded back with a thunderous roar. The air seem to grow colder for both sides as time came to a stand still. As with all battles none know who dealt the first blow, some say it was a spear man from Laniveer, others say it was a spear man from Weston, but the first man fell. Both armies looked like waves breaking over rocks as they crashed into each other. They fought from sunup to sundown and at the end of the day Laniveer retreated. Weston suffered heavy losses, their forces were cut in half and Duke is said to have been wounded and may not survive.

Laniveeran Sellswords at Darfield? Sep 29 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Yesterday's Training event at the Practice Fields was a great spectacle indeed. Prince Logen guided the capable soldiers of the realm through several drills, showing off their prowess in regards to a variety of weapons, before finishing it all off with a demonstration of the Sutherland cavalry.

Many nobles and even royals had gathered to watch the proceedings, such as King Callem Kilgour himself, Princess Roslin and Count Aldren Haravean among others, but also the current captive Moniwid Princess Emerit graced the event with her presence and even engaged in a bit of chatting with Princess Roslin as they took a turn about the fields. It was when they came across the seamstress Mistress Acadia that Emerit's handmaiden stumbled and almost fell, helped back to her feet by Lord Harmon Forrester. A figure was seen vanishing in the crowd, some ugly commoner woman, as some witnesses claim.

Another departure caught the attention of Prince Logen and he sent his man Deekes after the big soldier who left without receiving the order to do so.

Upon Deekes' return, Prince Logen sent a group of the best soldiers into the woods, to a small lair which Deekes had discovered when he followed the big 'soldier' /and/ the ugly commoner woman, who had turned out to be a fake damsel. There was a short skirmish, and three of the four sellswords were killed, the big man among them. The only survivor, a skinny man who had posed as the 'ugly commoner woman' was taken away, wounded as he was, right to the dungeons of Darfield Castle for a thorough interrogation.

All that is known so far is that the sellswords were foreigners and spoke with a Laniveeran accent. Their purpose unknown - as of yet.

A woman, who is likely chief's wife, comes closer "What is it all about?.."

I will let her do it, she is so excited about the idea, that I have no idea…" chuckles the man, taking a huge pot and walking near the fire.
The wife follows him and speaks in the same silent tone "What do you mean?"
"Our little princess… Do you remember how she loved gingerbread, when she was little girl?"
"Of course!" nods the wife with a wide smile.
"I heard rumors, she might be with a baby. She is incredibly hungry at these days. Her portions are bigger and Gaela is lurking around the kitchen too much."

On the morning of the 43rd of Alasair a group of riders assembled in the courtyard of Darfield Castle, 10 guards of House Kilgour and four servants, one of them Gaela Rascalin who sat on her mule. More mules stood at the ready carrying heavy saddlebags. While a white and a black destrier where already saddled and briddled and held by their reins, still without their riders.

It did not take long and Baron Ruthgar Ruxton and his wife Caillin emerged from the Castle through the double doors, he slightly pale yet composed, she all beaming with anticipation it seemed. A regal farewell comittee entered the courtyard in their wake, as both King Callem, Queen Laetitia and their children Prince Logen and Princess Roslin wanted to offer their farewell in person. Also Lord Robben Ruxton, his sister Lady Solara and Ruthgar's sister-in-law Lady Aemy were present, to exchange hugs and some words with the pair.

The greetings and good wishes were finally exchanged, the baron and baroness ahorse and ready to leave, when Ruthgar turned towards the King for a last word. "Do not hesitate to send word to me, your royal highness, if my presence and help is required. And I will return as swiftly as I can." And then the group departed for Dellhaven, their barony that they still have to inspect.

Nobody's heard much from the area of Sutherland and Trueborn Keep of late. But with the duchess with child, that's hardly a surprise. But some say maybe it's gotten too quiet.

Sealed Document Oct 07 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Last night the voice was seen leaving the Greenshire suites carrying a sealed document. Shortly after a messenger dressed in the livery of the Voice delivered a sealed document to the Temple, what is the document? Did someone of importance die, is it a marriage contract for one of the remaining un married child of the King or is it for another of the Kilgour. Or does it pertain to the war and the spies that have infiltrated the city.

Mysterious signs Oct 08 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Within two days after Baron Caedmon Kilgour, Voice of the king and Royal Chancellor, delivered that mysterious sealed document to the temple, servants at the castle began to whisper that he has disappeared. No one can say what has happened. Guards arrived outside the door to his chambers in the early morning hours on the third day of Umbra, to find a handwritten note posted on his door. The sign indicated that the Baron should not be disturbed. According to some servants, an apprentice at the Royal Infirmary claims that the handwriting on the note looks very much like the handwriting of the royal healer. Further, that royal healer, Baroness Wenna Riverwynd, is also rumored to have disappeared.

Returned from Dellhaven? Oct 11 2013 Through the Grapevine

It seems the Baron of Dellhaven and his wife Princess Caillin have returned last night to Darfield Castle after their trip to their barony. Maybe the baroness was homesick? Or maybe Sir Ruthgar is most eager to be ready whenn King Callem calls to war? Either way, the baroness it seems keeps to the Dellhaven Suite on this morning. Homesick? Or just sick at home?

A New Sail Oct 11 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

With the Laniveer fleet known to be incomming, there's a spot of commotion on the docks when a set of unfamiliar sails are spotted approaching Stormvale. The sharpest eyes are soon able to distinguish it as a single vessel and before too many defenders are summoned it's identified as a vessel from Greenshire, the Lady Aoife. The High Admirals own ship in fact.
Word quickly spreads and Lord Eoin is on teh quay in plenty of time to greet her as she pulls alongside. Words are quickly exchanged between ship and dock and then there's a flurry of action as supplies are readied for loading.

Rumour in the dockside taverns? The Admiral himself is planning on taking her out again in the morning and going fleet hunting.

A boisterous young man in the Riverview Inn

"I'm telling you the nobility is getting nervous. They're asking folks to watch the beach front for wreckage, and they're in such a poor humours they won't even spare a few coppers to pay a couple of lads to do it for them. Next thing you know they're going to be asking the army to march without wage and offer to pay them a reward if they win." He calls for another drink, "Don't know what's worse, them hinting that ships are going missing or them acting like the treasury is gone empty. Yeah, I wouldn't be counting my coppers on a deal with the court 'til the coins were jingling in my pouch either."

"That Moniwid Princess - it's said she's gonna swear fealty to King Callem!"

"What, just betray her family like that?"

"Well to be fair, her family betrayed us first. And she's got to save her skin somehow."

"What's got her convinced to do that?"

"Well you know Bess? That sweet young little - well, you know Bess? She says that Princess Ros has been going in and out of the Snake Princess' room quite a bit."

"Gods be good! What could have been said to make the Moniwid change her tune?"

"Who knows. Then again, for a few minutes alone with a pretty young thing like that, I'd sing a whole buncha tunes!"

Mask and Shadows Oct 13 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Two guards are stationed at the base of the Eastern Watchtower, it's late at night the next morning. The two start to talk to kill time,

"Yeah, I saw them. It was spooky to watch, so silent and in all black."

"I've heard it's not been seen in years, and now suddenly there's been a reappearance. Only started when that prisoner was brought in."

"That's what I was told, said it's just a shadow wearing a faceless mask with lidless eyes made from ice." There's a full body shudder at the mental image.

"I haven't seen it, don't ever want to. I've heard tales though, tales of pain and silence. That it just watches you while your body is cut open then put back together again." this one shudders as well.

Both guards start to peer into the darkness, and later when off duty they recant the tale of their visit from 'The Mask'. Other guards tell tales of 'The Shadow' passing through the halls of the castle.

Overheard in the castle kitchens. Two scullery maids scrubbing and peeling potatoes.

The second maid blinks "What 'appened, did the lass find the prince?"

The first maid nods "Aye she did. He were in the courtyard and he up and dropped what he was doin' te run up the palace steps two at a time. Next thing ye know he is carryin' the Duchess down the hall to the infirmary with a cloth wrapped 'round her hand, all bloody like. Innocent or not? Oct 21 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Two palace servants were overheard talking amongst themselves.

"I'm telling ye. I saw it with me own eyes. The Captain went into the Royal Healer's office and I swear he didn't come out for hours. And she seemed right proud of herself when he left."

"I wonder what they was doing in there?"

"I don't know, but the Captain was tugging at his clothes and grumbling about something."

"It has to be something else though. I mean the Healer and the Voice is together… and the Captain is right honorable. They'd never do nothing improper. I bet it was all innocent like."

Innocent or not, it also was said that the Watch was getting a bit antsy over the Captain's long absence. It is said he couldn't be found for a good eight hours, which isn't like the man. He was apparently grouchier upon his return, but appeared to be less tired. Ah well… who knows?

And, how can they know it is the King? Couldn't it be any other important person? Probably not. The golden griffin of King Callem stands in every flag of the caravan. But only time will tell.

Bloody Garden Oct 27 2013 Through the Grapevine
_
_

Early in the morning the Watch were called to investigate the scene of a mass murder in the public gardens. The bodies for four known street criminals and the appointed guard and maid to Lady Nimue were found slain around a fountain.
The body of Grete, identified by one of the Forrester staff from the castle, showed signs of sexual assault. This was seemingly confirmed by a short crossbow bolt going through the exposed groin of one of the male criminals. The guard was pinned to a tree with a long bolt driven through his chest and a slit to his throat, his sword undrawn suggesting it was an ambush.
The body of Lady Nimue was never found, speculation is that she was saved by some vigilante of the night. Others say she ran away in shame after being taken by the men. Still other's say that she willingly left with a rival group of bandits who'd staged this assault so she could run off with their leader. The last one being the most wild of claims.

— Reply by Alasair at Sun Oct 27 13:14:35 2013 —
Word on the street is that there is a reward offered from House Forrester for any information leading to the return of Lady Nimue Forrester and the capture of her kidnapper. Should it be found that she has been compromised in any way, there will be a trial for the kidnapper and should he be found guilty, a very public execution.
