Born into House Leask on the day of Umbra, the goddess of Shadow, set the tone for this woman's entire life. Whether feared, looked at with suspicion, hated, or held in awe, the effect was magnified exponentially by the fact that she looked exactly like the many artistic images of Umbra Herself. Her tan skin, vivid green eyes, and curly raven hair with fine features unlike any other in her family on either side made the godly resemblance all the more notable. She was named Luna Latea, meaning "hidden moon."
She was groomed and educated specifically to become a high-ranking Servant of the Eight from birth, for her zealous parents believe her to be Umbra incarnate and expect lofty deeds from her as a result. Her time as an acolyte was fairly short, culminating in her being granted the robe of a full priestess on her eighteenth nameday, only two years after she first donned the attire of an acolyte. In the past decade or so, she has made herself useful by listening to noble and commoner with the same patience and guiding each with equal effort.
It is no secret she feels respect is to be earned, not given away due to a title that denotes purely secular power. This has led to nobility and royalty often having strong feelings about her, either of appreciation and respect, or of disdain. Her lack of groveling to those with money and power earned her the honor of being Princess Roslin's personal spiritual advisor. More recently, Sess Himself made his favor of her publicly known when, during a dramatic visit to the Temple of the Light, he singled her out. She was the only one to bring herself to a standing position after prostrating herself, moving near the statue of her patron goddess. He came near her, laughed, then brushed a kiss against her forehead, at which point all the hair on her body turned stark white, before finishing his business and leaving. Of course, there are many variations of what actually occurred, but this has caused far more to notice her, both within and without the Temple hierarchy.
