Background
Kierne used to be one of Duke Ronan Crawford's squires. He is the nephew of Aidan Kincaid, the Duke of Lakeshire.
When I was first sent to House Crawford it was as a fresh, new squire to one of Duke Pallow Crawford's knights. It was my hope that in time I could become Sir Pallow's squire for he was a renown knight of the Rioga. Alas, I hadn't been a year squired when the Laniveer invaded Mobrin. Both Sir Pallow and my own knight were slain in the fighting and it was Sir Pallow's younger son, the newly knighted Ronan Crawford, who took me up as his squire after the Battle of Westgate. I was amazed and proud both when the King raised Sir Ronan to Rioga soon after.
Since then I have been working hard to better myself at both blade and horse, among so many other skills I must learn. Certainly there is no where better than Sutherland to find oneself a fine mount! My father and my uncle see that I lack for nothing, especially now that Duke Cedric Crawford is no more. In early 228 he and his Lady wife were murdered and Trueborn Keep was burned. Sir Ronan Crawford as the younger brother and last direct line male of that House unexpectedly became Duke of Sutherland.
More than ever I must conduct myself worthy of serving such a bold man. I think the Gods, or at least Sess, favours him and I pray that I may become such a man as the Gods may favour also.
Character Features

KEER-nuh
The gangly awkwardness of this youth's adolescence has been tempered by liberal doses of hard work, giving his shoulders and chest a certain well-apportioned breadth as he shoots up past five ten, five eleven, growing like a weed. His hair looks to have a tendency to curl, but the mud brown locks are hardly given a chance to do so, clipped close enough that they merely stick out here and there in a bedheaded tousle that summons from his heavily lidded hazel eyes a somewhat lethargic countenance even at moments of extreme energy. He is shaven, but not assiduously, and often enough can be found with a fair bit of scruff about his jaw.

Quirks
- Heeltwin: Kierne was the second-born of twins. This is not necessarily known to people outside of his family, since his brother died when they were both stricken by an illness at the age of seven. People close to the family might also recall his father, in a moment of high emotion after the tragedy, wishing that it had been the other twin to survive. Nobody thought Kierne could hear, but ever since then relations have been at best tense between father and son.
- Low Self-Esteem: Kierne has, through a variety of causes, but esp. viz. supra, developed a keen sense of self-loathing. Praise has a tendency to make him uncomfortable as it clashes with his personal paradigm of self.
- Alcoholic: When he gets started drinking, it's hard for him to stop. He has occasionally gone whole days in a state of intoxication, but Sir Ronan has largely beaten this behavior out of him. Fortunately he tolerates alcohol very well, and so functions well enough when drunk, even if it loosens his tongue more than it should in polite society.
- Pansexual: From his first adolescence Kierne's loins have hardly discriminated in excitement between the genders, his libidinous interest piqued both by men and women. His preference has been tainted by a certain misogyny as he's grown; he might be sexually attracted to women, but he doesn't like them very much, finding them coy and diffident and generally unpleasant, especially the nobility. He's much more likely to fall in love with men, and he does, frequently, even if it's merely a platonic love, such as he feels for Sir Ronan. As for women, he is far more likely to enter into a physical relationship without the emotion behind it. Meanwhile he's fascinated with the liminal space between genders. Men who dress in women's clothing or women who act in particularly masculine ways (bypassing his distaste for feminine behaviors) are highly likely to draw his attention and interest.
- Pessimist: A Pessimist with a capital P; id est, not a person who expects everything to end badly (though he often does), but with a keen interest in the New Pessimistic school of philosophy, whose proponents declare that nothing in life is certain, knowable or provable. They tend to write some scandalous things about the contrived nature of society and manners, and some have gone so far as to suggest that there is no natural distinction between nobility and commoners, and that the contrived boundaries between the so-called classes should be broken down.

I went to a shrink to analyze my dreams
he said it's lack of sex that's bringing me down.
I went to a whore, and he said my life's a bore
so quit my whining, 'cause it's bringing her down.
You could be a float for the fourth of July,
based on your theme of "Wallflowers Gone Wild."
Look through your peephole, you've won every prize.
Let's drink, drink, this town is so great.
Drink, drink, 'cause it's never too late
to drink, drink, to no great surprise,
but what words rhyme with buried alive?
What words rhyme with buried alive?
It's no surprise to me, I am my own worst enemy.
'Cause every now and then I kick the living shit out of me.
Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk?
I didn't mean to call you that…
I'm just seven hours old, truly beautiful to behold,
And somebody should be told my libido hasn't been controlled.
Now the only thing I've come to trust is an orgasmic rush of lust.
It rose tints my world and keeps me safe from my trouble and pain.

Drink with me to days gone by,
Sing with me the songs we knew
Here's to pretty girls who went to our heads,
Here's to witty girls who went to our beds
Here's to them, and here's to you.
Drink with me to days gone by,
Can it be you fear to die?
Will the world remember you when you fall?
Could it be your death means nothing at all?
Is your life just one more lie?
Drink with me to days gone by,
To the life that used to be.
Let the wine of friendship never run dry,
At the shrine of friendship never say die.
Here's to you and here's to me…
