Alasair 40, 228: He Has To

He Has To
Summary: Early in the morning, two sleepless Ruxtons have a bit of a talk.
OOC Date: 27/September/2013(OOC)
Related: Rumors about Duke Jon Ruxton's health.
Players:
Robben Solara
Weston Suite, Darfield Castle
The sitting room of the Weston Suite is a cozy room, with a general seating area centrally located. Several comfy chairs and a small sofa with a settee, in a simple tan colour have been placed around a black wood table. There is a fine carpet underfoot, its dark brown with black waving throughout a contrast to the light wooden floor. A couple side tables against the walls can be used for storing small items. Various vases with bright flowers can be found as often as they are in season. One corner of the room houses a full sized harp and various other musical instruments; the opposite corner has several shelves which house some books, but also writing, art and embroidery supplies. On the wall in place of prominence, the Ruxton coat of arms can easily be seen. Elsewhere, some tapestries of day-to-day life in Weston have been artfully placed. There are doors leading off to the private areas for the Duke and other family members.

It's an early morning, and any sane person is probably in bed still. Which is why Robben has made his way out into one of the chairs, having pushed the chair back a bit. Leaning forward in his seat, he keeps on looking at one particular point on the wall, not paying too much attention to the rest of the room. Everyone else is asleep, right?

Solara hasn't been confused for someone sane, has she? Otherwise, she'd no doubt be asleep, but here she is, wide awake as early as it is. She comes out of her own room into the common area, pausing as she spies Robben already there. "You get kicked out of bed?" she asks, softly, as she pads barefoot over to a chair next to her brother's.

"Hmmm?" Robben asks, without looking away from the wall. When he realizes who it is he's speaking with, he shakes his head a few times, closing and opening his eyes. "Hey… And no, I wasn't kicked out of bed. Couldn't sleep, so I came out here, to avoid waking Aemy and the kids…" A brief pause, before he adds, "You're up late… or early, or whatever the time is…"

"Early, I think," Solara says softly. "At least I did fall asleep and just woke up." She reaches out to pat Robben's shoulder. "It's a rumour, I'm kind of hoping it is exaggerated." She looks at the wall, and then back at her brother. "We can still hope, right?"

Robben nods a little, letting out a sigh although he smiles briefly at the pat to his shoulder. "It can't be true. Because if it is…" He trails off, looking down to the floor as he shakes his head a bit. "I don't think I'm ready…"

Solara moves to give Robben a hug, because the pat on the arm was not enough. "I don't think either of us are ready. Any of us. Dad - is - he has to walk me to the ceremony he signed me up for, that's all there is to it." Because surely that's the most important thing, but it's a good cover.

Hugging back, as he's hugged, Robben doesn't try hiding the tears in his eyes at the moment. "Yes, he has to…" Going quiet again as he closes his eyes for a few moments. "He has to…" he repeats.

Solara has been fighting back her own tears, but at the sound of her brother's voice, her control slips and she starts to cry, silently. "He will," she manages, sniffling a bit. "I just - well, it's a rumour. We will hear the truth come out now. He'll send us a message."

There's a few deep breaths as Robben nods a bit, "He will." A brief pause again, before he adds, "Part of me wishes that I'd been there to help, but then again, I'm glad that Aemy, the twins and you are here, where it's safer, at least at the moment." Spoken a bit quietly now.

Solara raises her fingers, rubbing at her face. "I'm sorry," she says. "I didn't mean to cry on you." Though if she's going to cry on someone, why not her brother? "I am glad you're here too. And Ruthgar. Or else Aemy and I would be going even crazier with worry."

"Hey… What are older brothers for, if not for you to cry on us when you need to?" Robben asks, before he offers a quiet smile. "Yes, you two, and Ruthgar's wife too, I believe." A brief pause, before he adds, "I'm glad Josiah and Mariana doesn't quite know what's happening yet."

Solara grins a bit, and then she says, "They have to meet their grandpa." Yup. That rumour better just be wrong, or Solara might be pulling Inouv's ear. Or trying. (He might let her, she's cute enough.) "And yes, Caillin too, though they wouldn't be married if Ruthgar wasn't here. Oh. I guess that's even more reason."

Robben nods as he hears that, "They have to. Both of them, I believe…" A brief pause, before he nods at that last part. "Extra reason there, yes," he offers, a bit lightly.

Solara gets to her feet, feeling at least marginally better. "There it is. Dad will come see his grandchildren," she says, stifling a yawn. "And on that note, maybe I can go get some sleep."

Robben nods as he hears that. "I should probably try to get some sleep again too. Thanks for… you know, being here…" Getting to his feet as well, and hugging his sister one more time. "Sleep well…"
