Geralt is a man of contrasts. He is quick with a ready smile, generally jovial and laughing, but when he turns serious he can be downright dangerous. Most never see the serious side of the man, instead the experience the friendly side… the quick smile, the strong handshake, the man always willing to lend a helping hand. It is that happy, charming personality that led him on the path he is on today. He was always the charmer, quick with a wink and a grin. It made people want to tell him things and slowly he collected secrets. It led people to go to him for help, which sometimes allowed him to unleash that serious, deadly side of himself.
Geralt was not set to be Baron. He was the third son, the 5th child, the baby of the family. His older brother Bevin was set to be Baron, to take over from Father Brody. His brother Padriac trained to be Rioga and so Geralt decided on another path. He decided to join the Rangers. At the age of 12 he was sent off to train and eventually he became one of the King's Rangers. His father died shortly after he was named one of the King's Rangers, and so Bevin took over the Barony.
It was Bevin who negotiated his marriage contract with Meeghan Leask, a cousin of the then Lord. Meeghan would give him 3 children, one son, Brayden and two daughters. While Meeghan stayed at home and raised the children Geralt was quietly making a name for himself with a select few. If ever a mission needed finesse and tact, Geralt was sent. He was known to be slow to anger, and quick thinking. If things had to be done quietly, and information obtained in a quiet manner then Geralt was sent.
Geralt developed a reputation for always getting the information he sought. If no one else could do it, then it was handed to him to pull off. Sadly information doesn't always win out. Bevin got sick, dying without a male heir to his name. He had three daughters, but no sons. Padriac should have taken over, but he was killed in a skirmish with Laniveer soldiers along the Lakeshire border. Padriac had married once, but his wife and child died in childbirth, so he refused to marry again. That left the Barony falling on Geralt's shoulders. He took it over, and when the time came to negotiate a marriage contract he looked around for the perfect wife for his son. He saw potential in Tamsin Mowbray, a woman who used charm much like he did. He negotiated with the young Baron of Mowbray and in good time his son Brayden was married to Tamsin Mowbray.
Geralt's career did not end with taking over the Barony. He continued to work as he could, and eventually his work was seen as enough to land him a position on the council as Master of Spies. He doesn't get out into the field as much as he used to, but he is still considered to top of his field.
